Special Needs Housing - AIDS
Opened in 2002, The Fernwood, sister project to Shelbourne
House, supplies 18 units of housing for persons living
with AIDS.
Previously a 24 room hotel, renovations to
The Fernwood included the additional of an elevator,
the creation of a common meeting area, one two-bedroom
unit, and remodeling several units to comply with ADA
guidelines.
Funded by U.S. HUD 811, HOPWA, and the City
of Miami Beach, The Fernwood receives an annual subsidy
to cover operating expenses, ensuring the units remain
affordable.
